I definitely believe new years resolutions won’t work. I have, however, set myself a few goals to ensure I have a happy year! As I’m so addicted to travel already for various reasons, this will not feature as I know I will travel as much as possible anyway!
1 Read more books!
When I was younger, I used to read at least one book every week. I’m a fast reader and have always enjoyed books especially fiction. I find I can lose myself in them completely. As I got older, I started watching TV before bed and playing on my phone… Although I do still read a lot on holiday (the photo above is one of my favourite reading spots in Greece!). However, I’m really starting to miss reading regularly. Hopefully, I’m going to aim for two books every month this year.
2 Learn Chinese and practice my Spanish and German.
As I’m living in China this year, I want to start learning Chinese. I hate to be one of those people that moves to a country and knows nothing of the language! My boyfriend and I are starting lessons this week, so I’m excited to begin learning!
At school, I learnt Spanish until I was 18 and after two months travelling in South America, I could get by very well. The photo above is a local family that I stayed with whilst I was there! This was two years ago and I have only practiced occasionally since. When I lived in Germany for a year, I managed to learn a little of the language, although admittedly not loads. I am, however, determined to download Duolingo and start recapping both Spanish and German. I love having the ability to communicate in other languages!
For those who don’t know; body positivity is a new (ish) movement aiming to give every individual body confidence and happiness regardless of their size. The world as we know it tells us that we are only beautiful at a certain small size. This is simply not true! We are beautiful at every size and our happiness should not be dependent on the size of our body. I have always struggled with my body size and I want to address this in 2019. My friend recommended a book which has given me hope for a new future. I refuse to stop doing things anymore because of my body – this leads on to goal number four….
4 Exercise more
I want to start making exercise a part of my life at all times. Now relating to goal three, this isn’t because my new year goals are to lose weight or slim down. It’s because exercise has always made me happy. When I was a kid, I danced a lot; this then changed to sailing when I was a teenager. I actually sailed for Team GB and at this time was exercising a lot. As I am not exercising to loose weight, I want to choose it based on enjoyment and not what burns the most calories. So I want to start doing more yoga/pilates as well as HIIT. I also love trying new sports (hence the waterskiing photo above!). Moreover, I want to take up ballet again. I used to dance a lot when I was a kid and loved it. However, I stopped as I got older, partly due to body confidence issues. As soon as I’m back in the UK, I’m going to get back to it!
5 Spend more time blogging
So in 2018 I finally started up this travel blog. I’ve been a big traveller for the last few years and have heavily relied on other peoples travel blogs for tips, stories and itineraries. So when I decided to take a couple of years to live abroad in China and travel after, I decided to start this blog. It will let my family and friends follow my adventures, and may also draw in new people! Hopefully, I can start devoting more time to this blog in 2019!
